Nice one! Had the same problem about a year ago how to generate 400Hz 115VAC efficienly. The old Russian monster rotary converters were no option anymore so looked around and found the EGS002 sinus-pwm modulator board from EGmicro. Basically it's for 50Hz applications but can be configured to run on 400Hz. With proper external components you can go up to kilowatts with it. And nearly forgot, EGmicro also has solution for 3phase!
